Professional Biography
International student services experience focusing on enrollment management, SEVIS, and student outreach and success. Before joining the CIE staff, Rafaela was an international student at Salem State University.
Bilingual (Portuguese and English).
Responsibilities
- Assist domestic and foreign students with their applications to Salem State University.
- Process and manage applications for the English as a Second Language (ESL) program and create I-20 (immigration documents).
- Support students and their families from around the world in written, phone, and virtual communication.
- Provide academic and immigration-related guidance in English and Portuguese virtually and in person to applicants to Salem State’s American Language and Culture Institute and degree programs.
- Collaborate in the planning and delivery of orientation, informational, and social events for international students.
- Manage aspects of office support for the Center for International Education including purchasing, dining services, and communication.
- Communicate with other departments on campus about student matters.
- Maintain and update information into internal databases including PeopleSoft, SEVIS and OnBase.
- Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) under the federal Student Exchange and Visitor Program (part of the Department of Homeland Security) and participate in training as related to serving as a DSO.
- Attend meeting with SEVP representative on campus. Collaborate with PDSO and other campus DSOs to share immigration-related information to students and campus offices.
