Dr. Mokoro began her career at Salem State University in the fall of 2007. Her primary teaching responsibilities are in the Bachelor of Social Work program. Prior to moving to New England, Dr. Mokoro taught in the Social Work program at Georgia State University. She earned a doctorate in Educational Policy Studies from Georgia State University where her concentration was Higher Education. Her Master of Social Work degree is from Clark Atlanta University. Dr. Mokoro practiced in the areas of behavioral health and addiction recovery after earning her MSW degree.
(1) Social Welfare History, focusing on African Americans in the 18th and 19th centuries.
(2) Intersectional feminist social work practice.
(3) Cultural Competence, diversity, multi-systemic oppression and privilege in society and in Social Work Practice
(4) Faith-based Social Service - in particular urban and multicultural churches that engage in the provision of social services
(5) History of African American religion and religious institutions
Dr. Mokoro teaches primarily in the BSW Program: Introduction to the Profession, Social Welfare Past and Present, Social Service Volunteer Practicum, Understanding Cultural Competency, Generalist Practice I and II, Human Behavior, Field Education, Spirituality and Social Work, Feminist Social Work Practice, Black Religious Experience, and Religion and Society
